This one may be more or less about videogames, but I'm sure some of you have seen some of these characters in certain music games. And Japan has brought us so much over years so... Anyway what is Ganguro you say? It's Japanese "Black Face". A cultural phenoma centered in Japan. Followers of this style generally find society dull and too much the same so they go out of the way to define themselves (even though I think "defining" yourselves doesn't really constitute trying to imitate another race). And yes, its known that japan has a huge love for black people in general (look up a well known black-japanese boxer), but this might crossover into obsession a bit... Anyway onto the topic at hand. I've seen people argue about how offensive this is, especially the older crowd as they argued "back in the day" about how offensive it was that whites wore blackface. Looking at the situation from outside-in to me it seemed like whites wore blackface because of racism and segregation, not because they loved blacks. Though to me since let's face it japan is predominantly...japanese, they aren't taking other people's feelings into account or rather can't (unless the 2 black guys over there makes a snappy comment) which makes them sometimes go too far. They both have some things in common though... both make black people look hilarious, almost like a parody of the entire race. Is this really how they think blacks look and dress? What do you think?
