I finally completed Unreal Tournament III's campaign mode (which ironically doesn't even seem like a campaign). Of course insane was annoying at times, especially when you have knuckleheads for AI that can't work together for crap. I can't believe it took Epic Games almost 4 years to release this game. Most of the maps are remakes of classic maps that have just been adjusted for the change in graphics. They really went overboard balancing the weapons to the point where it seems like every useful gun fires only 1 bullet every 5 seconds, slowing down gameplay. It doesn't help that I play on godlike either, with how slow the guns shoot if I miss my first shot I'm dead. Simple.
There is absolutely no story, campaign is just a bunches of matches loosely strung together with some lines of dialog or even a *gasp* cutscene popping up once every blue moon. Some planet gets attacked, the survivors go after their would be killers, but get stuck in some other campaign as mercenaries for whatever reason, but ultimately end up going after the bad guys and killing them. That's it? It took Epic Games like 4 years and all they came up with was this? I know its unreal tournament, but damn that's lame. Even the completely unneccessary explainations for why the matches are played this way and to give some unreal background are laughably ridiculous. They seriously try to explain why they play capture the flag with respawners instead of just killing the enemy, while at the same time leaving so many holes in the story. I never laughed so hard in my life at a game trying to seriously explain itself.
Still, its a solid game that's worth trying out for the multiplayer.
